Scott Bowden is the award-winning author of more than two dozen titles on military history. Among his works on the Civil War is the landmark volume, Last Chance for Victory: Robert E. Lee and the Gettysburg Campaign (co-authored with Bill Ward), considered by many to be the definitive study of Robert E. Lee’s command strategy and decisions during the decisive Gettysburg campaign of 1863. This book earned Bowden the prestigious Douglas Southall Freeman American History Award and was named to the Air Force Chief of Staff Recommended Reading List. Last Chance for Victory was also added to the curriculum of the School of Advanced Military Studies at the United States Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
In addition to Last Chance for Victory, Bowden’s other past works on the Civil War include detailed studies of the Confederate and Union forces at key battles in Armies at First Manassas and Armies at Gettysburg.
A graduate of Texas Christian University, Scott lives in Dallas, Texas.
